Some people find us because a friend dragged them to Smut Book Club. Some find us at Boozy Book Fest and only later learn there's a bookstore behind it. Some wander in on a Saturday afternoon looking for one book and leave with three. However you got here, welcome. This is who we are.

How we got here
The Gilded Page began as the bookselling side of Redux Society, a Kansas City community group that threw dance nights, board game nights, book clubs and parties. Somewhere along the way it became clear the books were the best part, so the bookstore set out on its own.
For a while we were a pop-up in the West Bottoms, open by appointment and at events. On September 1, 2025, we opened our storefront at 4264 North Oak Trafficway, and the Northland has been home ever since.
What's on the shelves
Thousands of titles across every genre: fiction and fantasy, romance and mystery, history, poetry, kids' books and young adult. You'll find banned books given a place of honor, local Kansas City authors on consignment, and yes, a few special editions with painted edges, because the shop's name had to come from somewhere. We carry Warhammer for the hobbyists, too.
Bestsellers are here, and we love them. What we hope for most, though, is that you leave holding a book you didn't know you needed until it found you.
Can't find what you're after? We can special order almost anything through our Bookshop.org storefront, and our audiobooks live on Libro.fm. Every purchase supports the shop.
What it feels like inside
We built the shop to feel like a wizard's library, or a tower lifted out of a fantasy novel. Think jewel tones and velvet, shelves on nearly every wall, swords and statues tucked into the corners and art hung wherever there's room.
On the last Saturday of each month, Hondo, our semi-retired shop cat, comes in for Caturday. He holds court wherever he likes and accepts attention entirely on his own terms.

Queer owned, queer safe, woman owned
That sentence guides what we stock, which authors we invite and which events we host. Come in as yourself and stay as long as you like. You can read more about it on our queer-owned bookstore page.
After hours
Most weeks, the shop stays lit past closing for something:
- Smut Book Club, the third Friday of the month
- Haters Book Club, for the books everyone loves except you
- Cozy Story Hour on Tuesdays, an hour of listening to an audiobook together
- Puzzle Night every other Friday
- D&D on Saturday afternoons
All the details are on our book clubs page, and you can RSVP on our events page. Between meetings, the conversation carries on in Kansas City Bookaholics, our Facebook group.
We host authors, too. Travis Baldree, author of Legends & Lattes, visits on March 2, 2027.
Beyond our four walls
Boozy Book Fest started as a 5-vendor market under Redux Society and grew into an event that brings thousands of readers to Kansas City every year. Think of it as the Scholastic Book Fair you remember, with cocktails and your favorite authors signing at the table.
We also help run the Kansas City Booksellers Association, which connects the city's independent bookstores and puts on the Kansas City Bookstore Crawl. When another indie bookstore does well, Kansas City readers win, and so do we.
